Together with the local environmental groups Ballydonut, CECAS and Birdwatch Ireland, Ballydehob Tidy Towns has gone ahead with building a Sand Martin wall on the island of the estuary lagoon.
Sand Martins are an amber listed migrant species of conservation concern. By providing a secure nesting site for them, the Ballydehob estuary can play a vital part in the conservation of these beautiful birds.
The project is being funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development, and is carried out as recommended by Nature of Ireland.
